Nature is also a medicine chest, holding remedies to many ailments. With an uplifting aroma a day picking Chamomile leaves us feeling relaxed and at peace. I always feel better just sitting in the field with them.
Chamomile (German): Helps relaxation, anxiety and aids sleep
St Johns Wort: Uplifting and with a beautiful deep yellow flower
Fennel: Chew fennel seeds after a rich meal to freshen breath and settle the stomach.
Peppermint: Helps stimulate the memory, good for indigestion or if you feel bloated after a meal.
Feverfew-Eat two fresh feverfew leaves at the onset of a migraine.
Rosemary: May help stimulate the memory and makes a good hair rinse.
Lavender: Used as a calming sedative as well as a tonic for the nervous system.
Lemon balm: Eases anxiety, relaxes and restores
Basil: It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Crush a few leaves and apply to mosquito bites. Leave on for a few minutes to relieve itching
Calendula: Can be used as a mouthwash or gargle to relieve inflammation.
Thyme: Has antimicrobial properties, may help relieve coughs and cold symptoms.
Sage: Has antimicrobial properties may relieve upper respiratory symptoms.
Mullein: A soothing herb may help heal bronchial respiratory infections. The leaves are commonly added to cough formulas, fun to grow.
Yarrow: Great winter tonic, striking flowers that dry well.
Echinacea: A well known herbal medicine. It has become very popular as an immune tonic but I would have it just for its amazing flower, it flowers late into the summer.
